Female Sign ♀

The female sign, a circle with a cross beneath it, is the symbol for female in biology, medicine and genetics. It also represents the planet Venus in astronomy and the metal copper in alchemy. It is used in pedigree charts, research tables and gender labels.

How to type ♀

Windows

Hold Alt and type 12 on the numeric keypad (Num Lock on), then release Alt. Alt 12 uses the code page 437.
Press Win + . to open the emoji panel, then type “female sign”.
In Microsoft Word or Outlook: type 2640 then press Alt + X.

Mac

Tip: Its Alt code, 12, is in the control range and works only in some Windows applications; in HTML, &female; is reliable.
